Our “Museum Live” events encourage participants to join us on-site or online as we address compelling topics related to America’s Transportation Experience. As we kick-off our fall series, join us on Saturday, September 21st, at 11 a.m. ET for “A Century of Speed: Pennsylvania Motor Racing.”
Presented by Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR) Executive Director Alison Kreitzer and EMMR librarian Steve Bubb, the discussion focuses on the evolution of Pennsylvania auto racing through a series of case studies. From dirt tracks to asphalt, sprint cars to stock cars, the Keystone State has a fabled history of automobile racing. Explore the early pioneers, legendary raceways, and iconic machines that shaped motor racing across Pennsylvania. Vintage race cars, photographs, and artifacts from the EMMR collection provide an insightful look into the history of regional racing.
From now until the end of September, Mario Andretti’s 3/4 Midget Race Car on loan from EMMR is on display at the AACA Museum, Inc.
The on-site webcast is included with your paid general admission to the Museum. You can purchase your admission ticket now. Or you can purchase your ticket at the door when you arrive. Space is limited.
Stephen Bubb attended his first race at Williams Grove Speedway in the mid-1960s, and the next night was in the grandstands at nearby Silver Spring Speedway. He began writing weekly results for the Silver Spring Speedway program before joining the staff of Area Auto Racing News in 1981. Over the years, he worked in the capacities of crew member, announcer, and assistant flagman at various area speedways. He has published two books on the history of Silver Spring Speedway. Since retiring from his job working on the staff of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Stephen has taken on the role of librarian for the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing’s Chris Economaki Library.
Alison Kreitzer grew up attending races at Silver Spring Speedway, which was owned and
operated by her family. She holds undergraduate degrees in Art History and American History and received her doctorate in the History of American Civilization from the University of Delaware in 2017. Her dissertation focused on the history of dirt track racing in the Mid-Atlantic from 1924 to 1955. She has worked as an educator, public historian, and professional development coordinator. She is a member of the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Consortium. She has contributed articles to the Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia. Since 2023, Alison has served as the Executive Director of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing’s Museum and Library.
